In a world-first, the Danish government decided that tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Facebook are so important that they merit their own ambassador, in exactly the same way as other countries do.
Foreign minister Anders Samuelsen points out that these firms are so large that if Apple and Google were in fact countries, they'd only just miss out on inclusion in the G20, the world's largest 20 economies.
"These companies have become a new kind of nation, and we need to address that," he told. "They are companies that influence Denmark as much as other nations do. It's a new reality."
